Heirs
Designate up to 5 recipients who receive full vault access upon release.
Heirs
Heirs are the people you designate to receive your vault contents when the time comes. Inheribase ensures your digital estate reaches them directly — without probate delays, without IT departments, and without anyone needing to guess a password.
How it Works
An heir is a named individual (identified by name and email) authorized to receive your entire vault upon release. Unlike traditional inheritance, the protocol handles delivery automatically.
Key properties:
- Heirs receive full access to all vault contents (no per-file permissions to manage).
- You can designate up to 5 heirs per vault.
- Heirs do not know they have been designated until the release sequence completes.
- Heirs require no technical expertise — only email access and a modern web browser.
The Succession Sequence
Succession is a four-stage process with multiple safety checks:
- Trigger Event: Your chosen condition (e.g., Dead Man's Switch) is met.
- Contestation Period: A 30-day window begins (configurable). During this time, you receive escalating alerts and can cancel the release with one click. Heirs know nothing yet.
- Guardian Key Reconstruction: Once the window closes without cancellation, Guardians provide their key shares to reconstruct the vault key.
- Delivery: Heirs are notified for the first time. They receive a secure claim link, verify their identity by creating a passkey on their device, and download the decrypted contents.
Privacy Note: Heirs cannot see your vault contents, or even know they are heirs, until the release sequence actually concludes. Your "Silent Directives" remain private as long as you are active.
Managing Heirs
You manage your heirs through the dashboard (People → Heirs).
For each heir, you need:
- Name: For identification within your dashboard.
- Email Address: The primary way Inheribase will contact them.
- Wallet Address (Optional): If you are bequeathing on-chain assets, providing their wallet address ensures a smoother transition.
Because heirs are kept uninformed during your lifetime, you can add, remove, or replace heirs at any time without awkward conversations. If a designated heir predeceases you, you must manually remove them from your list so the secure access link isn't sent to an unattended inbox.
